What is EyeFlyFish and who are the Optometric Fly Fishers?

EyeFlyFish is the result of an idea to create a program that combines the need for high quality optometric continuing education and the love of fly fishing. Founded in 1991 by optometrists and fly fishing friends Mark Boas and Charlie Griffen,  the idea came to fruition with the first EyeFlyFish program held at Allenberry Resort on the famous Yellow Breeches in Boiling Springs, PA. After a successful initial program, featuring noted fly fishing authors Joe Humphrey, Ed Koch and Ed Shenk, as well as a follow-up program in 1993, the program  was put on hold in order to raise our families and grow our practices.

Fast forward 25 years later

In 2014 we reactivated the program in order to provide our fellow optometrists with the opportunity to receive quality continuing education and outstanding fly fishing instruction. Recent programs have been held at the Rocky Mountain Conference Center in Estes Park, CO, the Allenberry Resort in Boiling Springs, PA, the Flying Saddle Resort in Alpine, WY.

and Buffalo Bill Village and Resort in Cody WY.

In 2018, Mark decided to retire from EyeFlyFish so Charlie decided to run the program on his own.

Big News!

In 2021 Charlie became a licensed Pennsylvania Fly Fishing Guide
